Results of Tutoring SHSAT Prep 2023
In addition to the results of schools that use the TACHS, HSPT, ISEE, and SSAT above, 12 out of the 19 students we prepared for the SHSAT, either in combination with the test above or separately, earned a seat at a Specialized New York City High School, such as Staten Island Technical High School, Bronx Science, or Brooklyn Technical High School.
At least 4 students scored above 561 and well enough for a seat at the prestigious Stuyvesant High School. 7 students reported that they scored well enough to be admitted to a NYC specialized high school like High School For Mathematics, Science And Engineering At City College (HSMSE), Brooklyn Tech, Staten Island Tech, or Bronx Science. The highest score of one of our students who reported SHSAT results was 619.
In the results above, we only included students who joined in September or prior. All student above were in individual or groups lessons for 6 to 60 weeks. Some started as early as 6th grade. Most had about 25 lessons and many practice exams. We did not include a few scholarships of students who only had one practice test or a lesson.
Results of Interview Prep
18 students prepared for the Regis Interview with us. 6 did not prepare in tutoring lessons initially. 16 out of 18 students who did mock interview prep with us were accepted to Regis. Most of these were during our Mock Regis Interview Prep days around Christmas. Students also had successful mock interviews with Kate or another tutor/interview prepper for Marymount High School and other high schools. Many interviews were individual and not in a group.

Most lessons were online for the past 4 years. Our results show that our online lessons were just as effective as in-person lessons, if not more so. We’ve been able to tutor more students. Students attend more lessons online consistently without running into travel or other logistical issues for in-person lessons.
This is a sum of over 5.7 million dollars in academic scholarships. Most students made all three high schools on the TACHS. All of our students who reported results were accepted to at least their first choice except one. Many were accepted to the Honors and/or Scholars programs to schools such as Convent of the Sacred Heart, Fontbonne, Kellenberg, Dominican Academy, Seton Hal Prepl, Chaminade, Phillips Exeter Academy, The Hun School, Peddie School, and many of the best schools in the NYC area above.
About 21% of the students in the program from 2023-2024 earned over $100,000
The average award of all 126 students was about $45,000 in scholarships over four years, which was better than previous years when all lessons were in-person. If a student received a scholarship, his or her individual average was $102,190! The median of those students was $97,315 showing that the money wasn’t focused on only a few students.
56 out of the 126 student we prepared earned a scholarship. This is slightly less than half or 44%.
51 out of the 126 students earned a scholarship over $10,000. This is 40%.
43 students earned at least $25,000 in combined scholarships. This is 34% or more than 1 out of every 3 students.
35 students earned at least $50,000 in combined scholarships. This is about 28% or more than 1 out of every 4 students.
26 of those students earned at least $100,000 in combined scholarships. This is more than 1 out of every 5 students. Many students earned multiple scholarships. If they took only their largest award, they saved a combined total of over $3,730,000 or over $66,615 on average.
Investing in your student’s education will yield many times the returns over their lifetime, whether it allows them to get a better job, earn more in their career, save time at a task, or solve novel problems that make them and those around them happier. Most of our students have earned many times their (parent’s) return on investment in only 6 months to a year. I teach all lessons in a way that shows how the material will be used in the future. What students learn in 7th grade are the building blocks from which all future math, science, and other material will be built. What they learned in high school admissions lessons will pay dividends throughout their entire lives.
John Zaborskis and associated tutors have helped 8th grade students earn over $22 million in scholarships.

Preparation for the rigorous high school entrance exams in New York such as the Test for Admission to Catholic High Schools and High School Placement Tests has already begun. Contact me to talk about how we can get the best results from your student. 6th and 7th grade is the best time to start, not only because of the impending high school entrance exams but also because grades in school in 7th grade matter heavily for entrance into most high schools. Above all, most topics in algebra, physics, chemistry, math, and calculus rely on concepts learned/mastered around 7th and 8th grade.
Slightly less than half the students who we prepared from 2018-2024 earned at least one scholarship. 211 of them earned over $10,000 in scholarships, 161 students earned over $25,000 in scholarships, and 80 earned over $100,000 in scholarships.
